I bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 home defense model on sale from Academy for about $200.
those are great guns for the money.
I bought a used 88 for $100 several years ago for a beater gun around the house.
Cut the barrel to 18”, added some ghost ring sights, a saddle and a light, cheap reliable weapon.

Yep the M 88's and the R 870's are hard to tear up and there is a world of aftermarket accessories for both. I give the advantage to the Remington only because it's been a proven action scene what the 50's? I forget the year but 12 and 20 where the same action for a long time. Just more ways to acquire one and make it what you want?

On sale today for $99. I have no experience with them. Personally I would spend 200 on a Maverick but it’s easy to spend someone else’s money.

Now they have one for $89

Best review-
I immediately broke it down when it arrived, all the parts had large burrs and rough tool lines. With just a few minutes of file, sandpaper and scotch brite, a few blasts of brake cleaner and a fair amount of Hoppe's #9 it shoots and cycles well with minimal pump effort. It's a fantastic deal for someone who doesn't mind putting 15 minutes worth of work that would normally be done at the manufacturers facility 👍
