We have a 2005 Yamaha 200 saltwater series 2 fuel injected that is having some idle problems. With the cowling off it idles fine in neutral at around 700 rpms. When I put the cowling on, it won’t idle higher than 500 rpms and eventually stalls out. It also dies when I put it in gear at slow idle. If I quickly add more speed as soon as I put it in gear it runs fine. Runs great otherwise.

Anyone have any similar issues and found out what the fix is? Is it as simple as just adjusting the idle higher?

Have you checked the air intake in the cowl? Somewhere, probably near the hand hold in the back, there should be a hole where the combustion air gets into the engine compartment. Maybe dirtdobbers or wasp have gotten in during the off season? Maybe some foam rubber has become displaced and restricting air? Just taking a wild guess. Never actually heard of your problem
