I looking to purchase a set of Large Beach Wheels for my Outback. They don't have to be Hobie but similar large profile tires is a must. I would prefer mount through the scupper holes but cradle & strap are OK.

Not wanting to kill your sale, but check out Key Sailing

They have the wheel ez kayak beach wheels for around $190 that plug into the cart made for the outback. The ones offered to you are great, but take up more space than the plug in's. Just offering an alternative. Key Sailing is on the left at the beginning of the boardwalk area . They are the local Hobie rep for Pensacola.

I built mine with a set of hand truck wheels from Harbor Fright, pvc pipe and threaded rod. Works great and have about $30 in it...

Making wheels

I have been thinking building a set as well. There were a pair on CL in Navarre I think for $25 or so. Can't buy the components that cheap to make them. There are many different ways to make them.

Depending on the year your outback is, be careful with the scupper holes. Earlier models had issues with cracking in the scupper holes. After talking to the guys at Key Sailing, they said that what was probably happening was that the tubes would come partially out and then be at an angle going through scuppers digging/stressing the sidewalls of the scuppers. So, be careful and you should be OK!

That being said, use the widest tires you can find for the cart. Previous reading on this subject had a reader who read used the rear wheels off a "big wheel" toy. I think a kids electric power 4 wheeler or something similar would have good wheels if they have a spindle style attachment. The wider, the easier it "may" be to pull through the sand. That is where the "wheel ez" low pressure tires have the advantage. I haven't found a comparable replacement for the low pressure tires. Those suckers are pricey!

I continued looking after I posted the other sites. This guys site is a wealth of info. I went out today and dropped $$ on some supplies. He covers different items each month, so click on the month and see what he has.

I like his anchor trolley design and will copy that, his anchor retrieval using a dog training dummy (got that now), and many more!

He also built a few different kayak carts. I think I may look for some aluminum axle material myself like one guy did. Lighter and easy to pin with cotter keys or what have you for the cart.

Have you ever considered using a pair of wide, plastic ski's instead of those expensive grey tires ?
Sacrifice the ski's instead of the yak...........
That would make for a super cheap "cart".
