I have a 4000 Sustain that is just to big for my inshore needs and I hate to get rid of it... So I figured I'd put it with my Offshore arsenal... It has 20 lb power pro on it.... Is this too light for the deep water? What would you use this reel for and what rod would you pair with it???

Get a Falcon Coastal or Terramar and use it for dolphin, bonito, kings butI wouldn't jig with it. I tried with a Spheros 4000 and got spanked every time with ajs. You can also light line snapper too.

I use 4000 sized reels for snapper and grouper all the time but for AJ's you just don't have enough ass. I've caught plenty of blackfin with a 4000 stradic with no issues.

That reel would be great for jigging bait... maybe small snapper etc... It would be a good reel to catch small dolphin on a weedline, but for most jigging and offshore applications it wont cut it
