New boat coming in 4 weeks (Tidewater 1900 BayMax). I need advice on GPS and bottom machines. Is it best to go with a combo or two separate units? Is an internal or external GPS antenna preferable, as I plan on having a T-top before too long? Is color worth the extra $ vs monochrome? There is too many options and brands to chose from. :banghead

I want a good reliable setup, for$500 to $1K for thecombo/pair. We will spend most of our time in the flats and bay, but will slip out the pass on a real good day, if the mood strikes. I have a Hummingbird 535 on my Griff Craft, and it seems to serve the purpose well, but its never left the bay.

By the way the old Griff Craft is for sell in the used boats forum. :bump

Color will definitely make a difference and is worth the extra money. For a combo unit look at Lowrance.I've had great performance out of mine and their customer service has been excellent with the few issues I've had.

Another thought is side scanning sonar. Since you'll primarily be in shallow water you might want to research those options as well.
