Fished pretty hard this weekend in Soldiers Creek. Caught 3 small redfish and 1 decent flounder.

Using jigs tipped with finger mullet.

Are they just not in the creeks this time of year?
Where to look?

Usually this time of year as warm as the water is the flounder do move up in the rivers and creeks more. However, if you have had alot of rain up river from where you were fishing, all that extra freshwater coming down will typically push the flounder, and alot of your other species back out into saltier water.

Aha!

So fishing creek mouths for a couple of weeks then the passes maybe?

This cold snap that will happen in the middle of the week. They will begin to move out of the rivers and bay into the gulf to spawn.

They are already moving out the rivers, been thick in the sound the last couple days. Could be another couple weeks before they make it to the pass but they should be all over the docks in the bay in the mean time. Gotta fish the tides though, whenever the water gets moving good they will bite. Already getting good reports in choctawhatchee, nothing crazy but they have definately started migrating the last couple days. October is always my favorite month to fish, bull reds and flounder should be everywhere here soon. Just hope it gets real cold this winter, last winter had the fish confused.

Tried around Ono with finger mullet late today. Caught a shortie, hooked a big one that spit the bait after mangling it, lost one at the boat. Two lizard fish.

I will, as Bob is my witness, learn to catch flounder.
