Went out to Chepanoc yesterday in search of kings for some fun trolling. Marked really nice water columns of fish with decent amounts of bait. Trolled live and dead cigar minnows with duster rigs around the conch reefs and the ship. Caught few nice kings, but pretty slow.

Trolled the day before close in around the drop off nearshore. Same result.

Has the king mackerel action been slow?

Thanks for the help

I catch kings trolling year round in Destin.

why not fish at night during the moons ulimation that's when they are feeding.

I think they sleep in after a night of pigging out under moon light.STB

I need to get out there trolling.

does this extreme heat effect the bite?

edit:never trolled a live cigar minnow just frozen. have freelined live cigar minnows if I was lucky enough to catch them for bait.

I have caught kings at night - but only drifting dead cigs
Night fishing for kings off head boats is common in SE FL - drift boats fishing cigs or ballyhoo on mono leaders and multi long shank j-hooks

During hot summer days, especially calm -during the day we fish deep - big planers with dusters, belly strips or spoons
