Took the boat out yesterday for a run to clean out the engine. As I approached the Garcon PT. Bridge from the west I noticed a barge several miles to the east of the bridge. I did not go all the way to the barge, however, it looked like there was light colored material on the barge. It is not usual to see a barge a mile or two off the south shoreline. Does anyone know what was going on? Were they possibly seeding some new reefs?

The State is building Oyster beds. They wash the shells off the barge with a fire pump.
East Bay provided a very low harvest in the past few years and it was determined that lack of shells, not pollution, was the cause of it.
Too much info to go into detail, but Google oyster growth and you will be amazed how much is involved for the slimy things to even exist.
