I am looking at a penn 760 slammer reel at Half Hitch Tackle in Navarre. They saythey have a 15-25 lb custom rod. He said many of the locals use this rod. Does anyone out there use this rod or have any other suggestions. I am mainly going to use for pier fishing. Thanks.

I like to use a nine foot rod for pier fishing. When the fish is close to the pier and you are trying to lead to the gaff the extra length over eight foot rod is a big difference. Also casting distance can be important on some days, other days you can just pitch the bait out 20 feet and get a bite.

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">I use a Penn 5500 on a medium action (8-12 lb test) Ugly Stick with Suffix 10lb mono. If I'm getting cut a lot I'll add a stronger leader.

I have that rod I think it was 109 or 119 and for the price I highly suggest it. Bought it 2-3 years ago thinking I would upgrade sooner or later, now I don't think there is a need. Now if only their piss poor customer service was half as good as their store brand rods are I would shop there a lot more.

And I have a 706Z attached. It's a great cheap setup
