What do you all suggest for a trolling motor for a 2008 SeaPro 196cc

Hello. I am new to the forum, and fairly new to fishing. I have a 2008 SeaPro 196cc and would like to get a trolling motor for the bow. I grew up in Gulf Breeze, but now live in Woodstock, GA and fish the lakes in the Atlanta area. However, I am going to try to make it to down to Gulf Breeze, with the boat, as much as possible. I was wanting something simple for a trolling motor. I guess the shaft needs to be pretty long. And I will need to cut the bow rails some. Would I want to get something used? I'll have to keep this purchase from the wife. Thanks for any thoughts. Remember, I am a novice.

Ha! I moved to Gulf Breeze from Atlanta a couple years back. Your first problem is a bow rail and second is the height of the bow from the water line. You'll likely need a 60" shaft. MinnKota also has an option that can be mounted on the outboard. However, if you are on a tight budget, that may not be a good option. I assume you are probably fishing Allatoona which is a notoriously shallow body of water. Good luck.

What's your budget? That will help narrow it down quick. For your size boat I would recommend a Minn Kota bow mount, hand control. 80 lb thrust should be plenty. The shafts come in 52" or 62".

I have a Sea Pro SV1900. I have a Motorguide 82 lb (24 vdc) thrust hand steer trolling motor. The 82 lbs moves the boat around just fine. I'd rather have a Minn Kota I-Pilot but the Motorguide came on the boat, it was new and works fine. It originally had a 55" shaft but I swapped it out for a 60". So my advise is get at least 82 lbs and as long of a shaft as possible due to the Sea Pro's upswept bow. Any shorter than 60" and the control head will be next to your ankles.

I started to suggest an I-Pilot but I wasn't sure what kinda budget the OP was working with. We fish with one on my partners boat and its one of the best advancements in fishing since the invention of modern sonar. The anchor lock feature makes them worth every dime you paid.

Thanks Boatman. Let me talk to the wife and I will let you know one way or another. And thanks everyone for your input. Rock and Roll.
Sorry I did not state a budget. I am thinking $500.
Hello Boatman. Does the Minn Kota have a model name? Is it salt water? Just trying to research it some. Thanks again.
Why put a trolling motor on the boat in the first place?.....is it for up in the lakes and streams or down here in Florida?

Hey crazy jack, it is a saltwater trolling motor, the model number escapes me, but I removed it when I put the ipilot on his boat, still in excellent condition..

Crazy Jack, I think it's a Minn Kota Riptide SF 80/62" shaft, also I have the Quick Release Bracket that I will include. I bought it in 2009/2010, I bet it doesn't have 10 hr. on it.

Thanks for chiming in WhyMe. I would use the trolling motor quit a bit in the lakes in the Atlanta area. And I would think I might use it in the pcola area around the flats and fishing inshore areas but................. What are your thoughts?
Hello Boatman. Thanks so much. I will be calling u soon.
Hello Boatman. After a little research, I have decided to wait and get an i-pilot. Somebody suggested with my style boat an i-pilot would be the best way to go. I fish alot by myself so the hand control would not be a very good option. I am going to save my frog skins for an i-pilot. Thanks so much for everyone's help.
You'll be glad you decided on the I pilot..... Had one on my old boat and loved it. If you'll be trolling a lot, get a small kicker to power your boat and use the ipilot for steering only... Awesome setup. 1 word of advice.... Figure out how many lbs of thrust you want, then go the next size bigger if you can swing it... Always better to have to have some extra reserve when needed....

I am thinking the Minn Kota Riptide St 80lb 24v 60" Shaft W/ I-pilot. Hopefully I can get it next month. Then I know I will shell out cash cutting my bow rails and getting it installed. Ugggggg.
Hello Boatman. Are you still interested in selling that Minn Kota Riptide SF 80/62" shaft trolling motor with the quick release bracket?
