Have you priced a new one. If you new what you needed, I bet you could find it even cheaper on eBay or the web somewhere.
I put one on a 17 foot boat many years ago, and I don't remember it being too expensive. I'm thinkin $100 for the cable.

Hey thanks. Yes I have priced new ones...they are in the $700 range. It's not the cable and steering tube. It's the steel "tiller" if you will that the engine sits on and pivots left and right. I would post a picture if I could figure that out :)

Steering arm assembly

Hey I need the steering arm that extends over the steering tube in your picture, and it is connected to the main "rudder" for the engine that extends down into your trim assy.

Are you interested in selling just that part?

Ebay - 170 bucks - looks like they got 4 available: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Johnson-Evi..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item35daf62410&vxp=mtr

(I just did a quick search & that was the first one i saw ... may be others. Lots of businesses parting-out outboards on ebay nowadays ... just make sure it's from a freshwater motor)

Here's another they want $160 for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/387222-3872..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item462b254cd3&vxp=mtr

Question: Have you tried to remove the old pivot tube yet?
