Headed down to Freeport for the 4th and my In-Law's place has access to a pier on the north side of the Choctawhatchee (between Alaqua and Lagrange Bayou). Water depth is just 2-3 feet and I'm curious if this time of year it is even worth fishing..

At least one morning I'm hoping to get over to the beach early to let the 10 year old throw spoons and such at blues and ladyfish for a couple of hours before it gets crowded. Assuming the June grass isn't crazy, I'll also probably set up a couple of pompano rigs because that sounds like the right thing to do...

With no money for a guide what else should I be looking at in regards to fishing?
