Gonna give it a go maybe the 17th, heard that the cooler weather usually brings them in close, Im looking at 3 miles out? Dont know if thats gonna net me anything or not, looking for good sized grouper only. I have most of the normal gps coordinate locations, looking at using freash cut bait and maybe some live bait. Any suggestions comments are welcome. Thanks

Grouper

Thanks for the input JD, whats the bite like down your way? I have caught waay more Grouper and Reds on a good piece of non frozen mullet cut bait than I have on live bait. I figure if the grouper do what they did last year in PCB, the smaller ones will move in to the inlets early and the good sized ones (not the monsters) will be out anywhere from 1-3 miles on the limestone spots. I also think water temp will be another factor. :)

The best bait I have ever used is fresh mullet that has never been frozen. Catch them late afternoon or at night. Catch them as long as your leg. Good Luck!

Thanks Dragonfire, will keep that in mind, although the ole timers are telling me the best time to fish is between September 27–October 11? My fav is whenever I can.lol

Also-

One hour before and one hour after high tides, and one hour before and one hour after low tides. Inland, the times for high tides correspond with the times when the Moon is due south. Low tides are halfway between high tides.

During the "morning rise" (after sunup for a spell) and the "evening rise" (just before sundown and the hour or so after).

When the barometer is steady or on the rise. (But even during stormy periods, the fish aren't going to give up feeding. The smart fisherman will find just the right bait.)

When the breeze is from a westerly quarter rather than from the north or east.? (Jury still out on this one)

When the water is still or rippled, rather than during a wind
