Trim on 1987 150 hp yamaha works part time. Started one day when putting on trailer after fishing. Let sit for a bit then started working. Now in the yard it works some time then will just stop for no reason. Got to work everyday for a week, then cranked motor in yard and run it for a bit and quit working again. Any one run in to this before..... Thanks Mike Potter

Sounds like the tilt switch. Spray it with a lot of WD40 and work it back and forth.

you using both switches, throttle and one on the side of the engine? That can help narrow it down also as to where to look

your trim motor is most likely failing.
Maybe.......maybe NOT!

Until it is checked out properly....do not throw parts at it.

I've replaced both control trim switch and lower cowl trim swith to fix a problem in the past.

Those trim switches are not that great, but you would think they were at $80ea.

xshark is right don't just buy the part. It needs to be diagnosed properly. Aguy on here just bought a starter when all he needed was battery cables.
proper diagnosis is key to NOT wasting money.

Clean all of your wire connections and make sure you have good ground. Clean your fuse connections too... Easy way to check for electrical issues is to jump the switches and go straight to the battery on the hot side.
