Got a new kayak and am dying to get on the water. Considering putting in tomorrow at sunrise and just hope I get in a couple hours before the rain. Looks like the higher percentages don't hit until after noon tomorrow.

I do not have a lot of gear yet, brand new to yak fishing. Where should I go to put in just for a few hours for some catch and release?

17th Ave boat ramp (too windy for tomorrow?)
Or the Simpson River Recreational Site off of 90?
Open to just about anywhere and willing to drive a little for a good bass spot.

I am leaning toward Simpson River. What should I expect to catch around there? I am assuming that is brackish water? Any tips on lures to throw back there would be appreciated. Basically brand new to fishing Pensacola even though I have lived here 6 years now. Finally getting out on the water.

Feel free to join/tag along.

Welcome to the addiction.

We have an incoming tide in the morning.
Simpson could yield, redfish, specks, hybrids, stripers and bass.

What to throw?
If you have any bass lures those will work for those species.
Other lures to consider are

Mirrolure MR17, jigs and soft plastics, jerkbaits, spinner baits, chatterbaits, crankbaits and so on. I like natural patterns, whites, purples, chartreuse and so on.

The fish aren't picky...if it looks like it's edible they'll hit it.
Target points, mullet schools, choke points, moving water...etc.

Good luck, post your results if you run into anything.
