Anglers, been many years since I have been on the forum and glad to be back. No doubt this question has been asked in the past, but would someone be kind enough to relay to me the mesh size and preferred diameter for a throw net for bait like alewives, etc. over at Fort Pickens or off the beach, etc. Thank you so much in advance and glad to be back.

Depends on the size they are. 3 inch or less you will need a 1/4 mesh not to gill them. 3/8 mesh they need to be 5 plus inches. And that's just the alewives monicure. As far as net size depends on the depth and weight needed to get down quick enough to trap the bait that your after and you can get to open? That maybe a 6,8,10,12,14 net. I like 10 foot radius heavy nets. I can load and open them well every time without all the over the shoulder hold in your teeth get wet methods.Plus a 10 foot 1/4 mesh and a 10 foot 3/8 mesh will fit in a 5 gallon bucket. 1 inch holes bottom and sides will let them dry out also.
