I was thinking about a family trip to Baja in late September if everyone can get vacinated by then. Will try to fish a day or two.

Has anybody fished there?

Is there a preference at that time of year between Cabo and La Paz?

Does anyone have a lead on a captain?

Thanks.

I went to Cabo 12 years ago in March and the striped marlin bite was on fire. Fall is a good time for blacks and blues. We fished with Chuy Cota. I have his card somewhere. Chris V has been there lately, I think, for roosterfish. Could be Costa Rica though. Can't remember.

I had a house at Spa Buena Vista, east cape of Baja 1980 to 1992. Loved it down there and fishing was great. We also spent May 1988 to Jan 1990 cruising the Sea of Cortez on our 46' Motor Sailor. It was Heaven on Earth!!! Fishing for food, +++ Marlin, Tuna. Diving was also super. There are several hotels on the east cape that have boats & Captains.

Thanks. I found contact information for Chuy Cota.

Thanks. You triggered me to look for Panga fishing in that area. Lots of big fish caught within sight of shore. Less than $500/day costs. Pretty cool.

One of my favorite pictures is me dragging a 100 pound + Striped Marlin I caught about 50 yards off shore.
I will try to post it later.

Fished the east Cape a couple times a long time ago. Playa del sol is where we stayed the last time. The sea of Cortez has some of the best fishing on earth! You can literally find schools of tuna within a few miles of the shore. Marlin as well as most pelligics are abundant. Really cool vibe also. Definitely a trip of a lifetime. We rented pongas and the captains were great

Have fished Cabo many times and covered the Bisbee's tournaments for years. Cabo is a cool spot, but La Paz is my favorite. Much less commercialized, very laid back and the water/fishing is excellent. There are several good charter operations and panga guides to choose from. La Paz is also more family-oriented than CSL.

I picked out a captain for a couple of days based on his Bisbee tournament results from La Paz and Cabo. Since his boat is in Cabo, that is where we will head out of. Will be staying closer to San Jose del Cabo. Have a driver, might take a day trip to La Paz.

San Jose is nice, too. Sounds like you came up with a great solution. Have fun and post up your results. Stripers very dependable, mahi and tuna good too. There have been big marlin caught within sight of the arch and it's not uncommon to see fish tailing/finning inside.
