Usually drive down from Michigan to fish the surf for pompano in Alabama for a week the end of April. Unfortunately can't make it this year until mid May. Are there still good numbers of pomps in the surf then? If not, what if any other fish show up in good numbers mid May? All of my fishing is in the surf with my feet in the sand. Always look forward to taking a break from waders in 40 degree water to fishing in swim trunks for a week.

Thank you for any help all you all can provide.

Still lots of pompano mid May but also lots of trash fish, especially hardtails and ladyfish. Makes it a lot tougher.

To me, May is the best time to surf fish. There is the most variety, it's very consistent and for throwing artificials in particular you will have outstanding action.
