This is the time of year that Bull Reds head in to spawn in our area. It is an incredible opportunity to have some great angling with a sturdy and big fish!

However, they are often mishandled, when u hang a Bull Red by the gills or by the mouth area, you are basically killing him/her with a gravity force to their insides that they are not used too. Plopping them down and letting them lay around in the sand doesn't help them either!

WET your hands or cloth...Support their mid-section ...get them back in the water promptly after u take your pic....this is our brood stock, without them the species can't support themselves!

Have a great time, but handle the Bull Reds with care!

Good point Pirate. Are you suggesting that we not use a boga grip, or are you suggesting that we do use a boga grip while at the same time supporting the fishes belly ? I always thought that it would be the least harmful means of handling a big red.

Using a Boca Grip while also supporting the mid-section of the fish is about as good as it gets, but pick the entire fish up at once with the support.

Wet Hands, gloves or a towel to keep from removing the slime. Take your pic and get them back in the water.

People get excited and don't understand what they're doing, this is simply intended to help inform them and hopefully save a few fish.
