Went out Wed and saw this escorted by 2 USAF boats. Wish I got a better shot when it went by us about 100' off the stern but we were busy catching bait. It headed towards the Bridge Rubble area.
Anyone know what it is???? Looks hair dryers sticking out of it, there's a exhaust pipe there. The little hump towards the bow is a cockpit (leftover F-117 parts?), saw someones head in there. Whole thing is maybe 60'+

Pretty strange looking rig they have there. I've never seen anything like that before. I'm curious to ssee what the forum members ID this thing as. I bet there is somebody on here that knows its origin and what they use it for.

Sort of looks like one of those "smuggler subs" they were chasin' a year or so ago... Maybe they got ahold of one and are studying it?

Man, I wish you hadn't taken that picture. You only have 24 hours to live. Did you get a pic of the aliens inside too? We're going to miss you.

that boat was at the Destin Coast guard Station, I think they might use it to test Radar, It was also at the Shalimar Marina for awhile.

It looks like a drug semi-submersible they probably captured. They run with diesel engines so that's what the vents are for. I wonder why the airforcewould be escorting it since most anti-drug ops are done by the coast guard and navy.

It's a drug running sub that got confiscated down in Miami. The Air Force is using it for testing. Supposedly they can't detect these boats on radar. It sits at Shalimar Yacht Basin in the water now. I posted awhile back some pictures of it and a little more info but can't find it. Those bricks sitting in front of the boat in the pictures I got posted are actually lead. They use these inside of these boats to keep the boat level while running. They had it out of the water doing some work on it when I took these photo's. They have 2 of these boats here they are testing. I haven't seen the other one since last year until the picture posted here. They must have it a Eglin.

those dang drug smugglers are getting more clever by the day. but the fact they got it confiscated means that dea, or whoever ,are just a tad smarter. kinda ingenous, but stupid nonetheless to underestimate our military.

LaJess II, Thanks for the pictures and info!!!! Looking at the ladder in the 5th picture, which I'm guessing is 8', it kinda seems like it isn't going to be sneaking across a flat. Good sized screw on it too.

But there's still a lot of cocaine and drugs that get by, so they're outsmarting us somehow! There was a national geographic documentary on the cartels that make these boats en masse, wait until favorable weather conditions and send them out and they are virtually undetectable. They make them for a million or two, load them up with quality electronics, pay the 3-4 man crew 10-20k per trip, load it up with millions of dollars in cocaine andrendezvouswith a boat at a predetermined spot. A pretty slick operation but its got to hurt the pocketbook each time they get caught.

My bet is they were going to test detection methods to hone the counter drug ops the military runs around the gulf. Its definitely not a research vessel.
