Strange Sight

Last time out I was beached at Big Sabine looking for bait when I saw about a 4' boil about 75' from the shore. That 4' boil was making repeated disturbances every 6' moving along the beach, like a machine. It was traveling too fast for a Manatee, a ray had to be pumped to cruise that fast and no Flippers were seen blowing. It really was weird, making the exact same size swirls spaced every 6'.

Back during the Blues Week, I was in Big Sabine. The sun was just getting high enough to sight fish, and I saw something huge laid up about 40’ or so in front of my skiff. As I inched closer, the fish moved a bit and then turned - I almost couldn’t believe it - it was a 5-6’ gar. Oddest thing I’ve seen and that guy just didn’t really seem to care - he just kinda chilled out until I passed him, then he shot off the flat and out into the sound.

If the boils were circular that very well could be a manatee as @Boardfeet mentioned. I was fishing a jetty in Fernandina west of Fort Clinch on an incoming tide when I saw 4' boils making repeated disturbances every 6'. I was standing in water up to my knees on an incoming tide and the boils were headed toward me. That 'hair on the back of the neck' moment turned out to be a manatee.
