Went to Ft Pickens today after work. I think I may have personally caught a large percentage of the entire Gulf of Mexico's Skip Jack population. Got there about 5 and left about 6:30. Lots of double hook-ups and a few cut leaders. Not sure if any pompano were out there, as the skippies didn't give 'em a chance. Tide was moving out, about halfway to the low tide. There was some light wind chop, but the surf was basically flat. Lot's of sand fleas, about half were soft shell.

Most were caught before I could put the pole in the holder. I could only use one rod...

Are you talking about bonito? I had to look it up I've never heard them called that.
Skipjack tuna are different than Little Tunnys...what we call a bonita. What we call a northern mackerel is actually a bonita. What we call a speedo mackerel is actually a Boston mackeral or a chub mackerel. What we call an LY is actually a scaled sardine. What we call a herring is actually a Spanish sardine. What we call a cigar minnow is actually a round scad. What we call a black mullet is actually a striped mullet. And finally, what we call a skipjack is a ladyfish.

Confused yet?

And a Bonito is actually not a Bonito but a False Albacore

The ones I were catching were ladyfish. I should've clarified but I've just always called them skip jacks.

Yes, hardtails are blue runners...except at Panama City Beach pier when the ones big enough to eat cigar minnows show up...then they become *&$#*!÷ *>@! $%#.
