Simrad import issue- help?

241 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  photofishin
I've tried to import data (gpx files) to my EVO3 and it gets to 95% and locks up. I have to turn the boat power off to restart. My bottom miniSD slot isn't being recognized either. I plug my CMAP Reveal chip into the top slot and that works fine and everything else on the plotter works. My boat is kept about an hour and a half from the house, so it's not simple to just drive down or call Simrad on the water. (I'm currently waiting on hold for Simrad for over an hour and my position in the queue is 11)
I've also tried multiple sd chips and different sets of coordinates.
Any help?
My next step is to try a soft reset, however I don't want to do a hard reset for fear I'll lose all my spots and have to plug them in manually. (1200+ spots)
I have all brand new batteries by the way

I don't know anything about what kind of problem you have, but can you make a copy of your SD card for backup?
How big is the memory of the card?
I would try another memory card.
The memory could be too big, just the wrong type of card or corrupt?
Another thing to try is to re-format the card.
I have multiple copies of my spots and have tried multiple 32GB cards of differing manufacturers. 32 GB is the size limit for Simrad.

I know its not much help but, you wanna send me one of those cards and see if they will load into my machine? You can rule out several issues if it works and I'll even pay for shipping..
All serious I wish I could help, damned things are great until they aren't.
I once exceeded the amount of waypoints allowed when I was trying to import them. It hung up and didn't notify me that I exceeded the maximum waypoints, it just stayed there and didn't prompt me to do anything.

I deleted the east coast waypoints of florida and successfully loaded the new waypoints.
Simrad = Lowrance
Hater! lol kiddingI I get it. But they still sink and can use the same stuff. Only problem I have had with Simrad and Lowrance in the last several years is buying newer stuff and trying to integrate the older to newer stuff because of updates. I'm a dumb ass with tech. Photofishin you may be great with it .My wife is really I mean really good with figuring all that out not me at all. Buy you some extra power plugs and make your units easily removeable so you can bring them home for many reasons. Most all of ya'll are way better with computers than I am. Will say this it's lot easier to play with them in the comfort of your home than trying to mess with them in a boat for her anyway. LOL. I just plop down several units with a comin power supply and some either net cables let her do all the updates and make everything work. Something I really like is to have a unit that just goes from boat to boat that is either netted plug and play. Stores all your way points and what ever info you put in. Then I can just power it up either net it up to my other units or a buddy's and all way points will be there and info that I have put in then they have it. If unit fails it's just a new one and a either connection away from any of the others to gather everything back up.

Try downloading EasyGPS and opening the gpx file. If you are able to open it, i would go through and start deleting tracks that take up alot of memory. Resave the file with tracks deleted and try on the SIMRAD unit again.
I wish it were that easy, my plotter is surface mounted. I did open the gpx file with EasyGPS and it opens just fine. I've also tried different gpx files to no avail. I don't save tracks and only have around 1200 waypoints. Simrad states the max is 5000, however earlier versions supported up to 10,000 and the code for that hasn't changed. I'm going to try calling Simrad again today as I sat on hold for over an hour in the middle of the day and still was 11 in the queue.

Good Ole Simrad/Lowrance customer service.

I don’t know how they’re still in business .

Is you're software the most current version or do you have an update available?
I have the latest firmware update. I did do a soft reset yesterday and the bottom sd card is now recognized but the import still fails at 95%. Weird.
