What is the best way to get the jaws outta a shark? Ive heard the ant bed thing doesnt work that great because the skin is so tough. Anyone got any suggestions?

It is a lot of work, cutting the meat off jaws. Cut as much as you can off, and soak in 50/50 bleach/water for 3-4 days, cut some more and put stick in jaws to hold open to desired width, and hang on clothes line to cure. You might want to spray with clear polyureathene.

A good sharp knife and a lot of time. Also careful with the bleach, too much and all you will have left is teeth. Here is a set I pulled out of our Shark from the Shark tourny.

As you can see I still have some work to do on them. Be sure toopen the jaws wide while they are still moveable and lock them in place with some sticks.

The question states: What is the best way to get the jaws out of a shark? - not what is the best way to get the meat off the jaws. It's hard to describe how to get the jaws out but I have cut quite a few out and have found the best way to start is by putting the point of the knife between the gum and inner lip of the shark and push the knife through until the point comes out the eye socket. You can then begin cutting down the outside of the jaws in both directions and repeat the same thing on the other side. You can then repeat the process on the lower jaw and it should come out fairly easy. As far as getting the meat off the jaws, boiling or using heavy bleach can cause the teeth to fall out. I usually trim as much meat off as I can and then place the jaws in an ant bed as stated by other posters.

Having done a set or two in my time I can tell you ant beds don't work. You need to boil for a very short time only a couple of minutes Then remove and scrap as much meat as possible off. Use an exacto knife or scapel. Soak them in bleach about 30 minutes 50/50 solution. Then prop them open or use styrofoam to open the bite up if you don't they will warp into odd shapes. This is the way commercial outfits do it to sell jaws. It's alot of effort but the results are worth it.
