Just about every time I go offshore I spend more time chumming for fish with my breakfast than I do fishing. I've gotten to the point where I'm just about to give up on going offshore.

I've tried the patches, Dramamine, not eating, eating, watching the horizon...nothing works for me...:sick. What are some remedies that work?

they make these wrist bands that have a "bead" which presses on the inside of your wrist. I forget what they are called. my wife swore by them to help with her morning sickness. I heard a deck hand say they work good for sea sickness to. Aren't to expensive so maybe worth a shot. Won't be called anytihng worst for wearing them then you will be called for chumming

BananaTom (7/20/2009)Are you taking the meds the day before, or the morning of the trip.

Many need to have the meds in their system for 24 hours prior to vessel boarding.
When I use the patches, I put them on the night before. They're supposed to work for up to three days. I don't get as sick as I would without the patch, it just seams to creep up on me slower. The patch gives me a horrible case of cotton mouth and bouts of dizzyness.

Dont drink anything with red food coloring in it. Like Red gatoraide

Drinking a few beers while you are out there may help. Also stay busy. If you are just sitting there thinking about getting seas sick you probobly will get sea sick. If you are catching fish tho you will be focused on that.

One of the guys that comes with me gets seasick in his bath tub so what he does is cuts a patch in half, puts half on after shower the night before and then takes it off in morning and puts on the other half. His wife also gives him ginger root and puts it in a water bottle with 2/3rds water and he sips on it all through the day and he doesn't get sick now.

Just drive the boat. In 20 years of offshore fishing, I have never seen the driver get sick.

If you can't drive, then try Motionease. It works on the spot.

...and just to be bulletproof - put a bag of ginger snaps in your pocket.

...and just to be more bulletproof, don't get too hot (and wet) and drink lots of water.

IUsed to be the worst for getting sea sick, Found that the patches work, Put them on the night before you go to bed. Same with dramamine, night before & take 1when you get up the next morning. You will feel woozy the next morning but does help. I always take beer, it helps with burping up intestinal gases that form while feeling bad. Try to stay as cool as possible, getting to hot will not be good. Get in water if you have to or dump cold sea water on your head. If your feeling bad, Dont try reading maps or tying hooks to lines , Anything that makes you focus on small thingswhile moving around will get you. Peeing is ok! Just kidding. Once you get used to how not to get sick, your trips will be much more enjoyable. If you get sick, force yourself to eat something, Crackers , sandwich , etc. sip on beer or water. Nothing sweet. Good luck. :letsdrink

Every time my girlfriend gets "sea sick" I just jump in the water with her for a few minutes and shes always been fine the rest of the day. I dont know what it does but it sure does work for her. Now everytime we go fishing i just wear my swim suit cuz i know im getting in. I know some people are "scared" of the water but dont worry about all that just get it and relax for a few minutes. Wont hurt to try anyway.

We usually drink a few while we are out on a charter boat the one time I did not start early I got sick. Was told if you force a few down it would help and it did. Guess my advice is to drink early and alot if you do not drink sorry.

Try this:

Night before:

Have ginger ale and ginger snaps for dinner while watching the horizon.

Then right before bed take a dramamine while chewing a ginger root while watching the horizon

Morning:

take another dramamine, apply a patch, electric shock bracelets, eat a ginger bread man from feet up while watching the horizon

while on the boat:

continue to wear patch, avoid diesel fumes, drink water but only swallow half of it, take more dramamine, increase voltage on shock bracelets, drink ginger ale, all while watching the horizon.

if it works each time you go remove one step until you figure out what works for you. I'm not a doctor but I play one on tv while watching the horizon. 1 dramamine one hour before getting on the boat, 1 when leaving the dock and 1 every couple of hours has worked for me and I watch the clouds if available. But, the main thing for meis keeping my mind off of it.

FOODDUDE (7/20/2009)I fish with a guy that swears by drinking 2 beers before he gets to the pass , It is a little early in the morning for me to start , but it works for him !
This. Also, ginger snaps and Lay's potato chips for food. You can get ginger root chewing gum at Asian markets. :letsdrink
