Kayaked from the Ed Walline beach access near 331 and 98 out to the Ed Walline Reef ~2 miles out. On the way out I picked up my 1st Gulf Mahi on a live 3-4" Mullet that I had cast netted the day before. It was beautiful as Dorado always are, though it didn't look as golden as the ones I have caught around Baja. It jumped more and higher as I got it closer to the kayak. It was probably 20-22" long.
Made it out to the area of the reef according to my phone's Navionics app. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate the exact area of a pyramid as I didn't have a depth finder. Usually, I go with a buddy who has a finder. I anchored up and tried working the area as best I could. Ended up catching 3 Sand Perch, 2 Lizardfish, 2 Sea Robins (1 of which had pretty blue spots on its pectoral fins) and a small Almaco Jack. I think I was close to the reef, but not on top of it.
On the way back in I saw a power kayaker with an outrigger. He said He was having his best day ever with 3 King Mackerel, 4 Mahi, jumped 2 Tarpon, and lost count of Bonita, all on Cigar minnows trolling along the outside of the outer sand bar.
Shortly after he passed by, I caught a 28" King Mackerel trolling a live Mullet just before I got to the outer sand bar.
