Went out of Destin yesterday and we found red tide to extend out 8 miles south. Beyondthat the water was clear. There were dead fish at 8 miles but they may have drifted there by the north wind.
On our way back, we came in7 miles down to the east and again hit the red tide about the same distance offshore. We fished 10 of my better spots under the red tide and got no bites. The fish appear to have abandon the area or are dead.
We fished St Joe Bay last week and found it there as well. It appears that the tide extends at least 100 miles along the Panhandle, eight miles or more offshore and is in the Bays as well. So far this is being blown off by the local media but I think it is the worst outbreak in recent times and could likely have a major impact for several years. With the persistent east winds I would expect it to be off Alabama within the next week or so.
