RE: Recreational anglers breathe sigh of relief Obama Administration no threat, officials say

I don't think they would ever do it in an in your face manner. The concern is when they are taking advice from PEW.

This is a little PEW project in Australia were the PETA types have a lot more influence than wehave in the USnow.

Pews website:

Here are the nuts and bolts of their plan. Look at the size of the area off limits to recreational anglers.

Pew's response:

A snippet from the link directly above:

A no-take reserve does not deny the
ocean to others, but it does prohibit all
forms of fishing.

How much of the Gulf of Mexico do you want off limits to recreational fishing?

I personally want zero areas off limits to recreational fishing.

Additionally, TU is not a sportfishing group. It has no reference to the support of fishing in its charter. Yes, many anglers are members of the group. Do not forget that TU national sold out the local chapters in Montana who were fighting for angler access rights.

I wouldn't have any issue with making portions of the Gulf "Fish Sanctuaries". In fact, where it's scientificallyproven that idiots without brains are causing too much damage, I don't have a problem with regulating the activities that are causing the problem.

Personally, I don't see sport fishing or recreational fishing seeing any major regulation that would prohibit the larger populace from fishing. Commercial fishing is another argument all together.

Ivarie (3/26/2010) idiots without brains are causing too much damage
Could you give some specific examples?

Did you look at the map from the PEW coral sea closure? It was an area half the size of the gulf of mexico. If you couldn't fish in half the gulf wouldn't you consider that a restriction of recreational fishing?

I agree you don't need to give up anything. But if you don't they will take it all. I already experience what they can and will do. Its better to have half of a fishing area than they keep on regulated you on time and amount of fish you can get. These people don't care if you eat sleep or breath. I already experienced this before what they can do to you i have lost my job that i have done my whole life to a few idiots like that. Its sad when you don't have a choice on what you do the bad thing about it theres not much you can do about it , they are gonna take what they want one way or the other . This is my opinion of the situation , there in Pensacola they already have you a mile of the beach anywhere else you can fish along the shore line

Either you make them fight for every inch they close or you fight for every inch they will allow to open. If nobody has a place to fish or the places to fish are greatly reduced there are a lot less people to fight to reopen closed locations. They know this, it is their mantra.
