Will look into the limbsaver. I miss standing prone possition, I dont dare the laying down to the shulder now days , so I bought him a bipod for his time to come with it hunting. Thanks ole carver

Second on the limb saver. It makes 12Ga slugs feel like dove load and dove load down right pleasurable on my single shot. I imaging a 308 would feel somewhere between a 243 and 223.

Get a cheap tripod from wal-mart. Take a 6 inch piece of PVC pipe and cut in half so you have a half-moon shape. The tripod will have a 1/4 inch threaded base with it. Drill through the PVC so that you can use a small 1/4 inch bolt and washer to lock the PVC onto the tripod. Now line the inside of the PVC with foam or something soft....even old tshirts will do. You can see where I am heading with this, it will allow you to shoot from sitting or standing while giving you a cheap but sturdy rest. The picture below will give you a basic idea.

A youth .308 probably has a pretty good pop to it. A full size rifle with either a shot bull or medium weight barrel or a full length barrel will have less recoil just from a plain physics stand point.

I like that tripod and pvc pipe idea. That would be great for a youth turkey hunter.

Grassflatsfisher, you do have a good point on the shorter barrel an extra muzzel blast, I bought this one for the son, Havent shot the 06 since 2000, its in moth balls so to speak. Does seem like it a 24 inch didnt kick as bad as the 308, Thanks something to keep in miy mind... Sniperpeeps,, partner info is always good, That youngen will blast a 30-30 off the table an smile at me, I see his shoulder move 6 inchs or so, but like dad its a sport with thrills. He might like a project to improve his change of positions,, Thanks,,, JohnF.. It seems several friends an members in here see the Limbsave as a asset, So Im gonna be looking to pick one up in the near future, Can hurt much more,, LOL Thanks gents the ole carver

jj ,,,One more good hunt before the son grows up an moves on his on an it might go on the selling block, If he doesnt want to keep the pair. Im not shur if a old modle Rem 700 would shoot well enough to match some of the great rifles you have been thru. I almost offerd it to a fella this year to put the son an I on a deer in a safe plot. Then backed out before the conversation got serious. Sold my Win 70 rainbow wood ,kept this, sold my browning an kept this one imagine that... It just keep collecting dust in the safe, LOL But I will keep that franklin in mind, Thanks olecarver
