My son wants to use some of his Southwest Airlines points to catch something with a bill in May or June.

Past issues of Saltwater Sportsman indicate that the bite off Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic has been pretty good then, and Southwest flys there.

Does anyone have leads on where to stay or who to fish with?

Thanks.

I have been there several times and yes the bill fishing is outstanding but I don't know of any particular guide to recommend. There are dozens of all inclusive resorts throughout the Punta Cana area, just go online or get a travel agent WHO IS FAMILIAR with the area can be a big help ( that I can help with if you want to PM me ). I am hosting an incentive trip down there this October for 150 people.

If your budget allows I highly suggest staying in Cap Cana. It is a relatively new private gated and walled community about 15 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. It has its' own full marina, the #1 rated golf course in all of the Caribbean , and several resorts. The top resort is Secrets Cap Cana. If interested, you really need to go online and look it up. Good Luck !!

Costa Rica is great but I wouldn’t say Belize is any safer than the DR. Not that crime rate matters if you stay inside the resort area, they’re all going to be safe. I’ve been to all 3 (not for fishing though) and I had a great time at each spot. Take normal traveling precautions and use common sense and you’ll be fine.

No advice but a funny story. About 10 years ago for my daughters High School spring break senior trip my wife organized a one week trip to Punta Cana. We were chaperones along with 3 other parents. The students were a mix of boys and girls. First day I get up early for a walk on the beach. Surprise, this resort is clothing optional. The boys loved it. I didn’t mind it either.

Just got back from Cap Cana.

The referral to Traditions Charters led me to Tim Richardson who unfortunately was departing Cap Cana, DR on June 1 to fish the Sept-Nov black marlin bite in Cairns, AUS.

However, Tim referred me to Keith Bokenhagen who fishes the 65' ACY "Black Gold" out of Cap Cana, and we fished one day with him, staying at the Cap Cana Marina.

Everything was lovely, and we finished the day 3/6 on Blue Marlin.

The following day, a boat a few slips down came in with 4 white marlin flags, so the bite was still on for them, too.

Thanks, PFF!
