I have best luck with the bucktail jigs. Pink or Pink & White tails, 1/2 oz or so.

Any color Jig head is okay, black ones with white/pink tails do better at times, as will the yellow heads.

I've bought blackhead jigs and made/dressed the tails with imitation/synthetic bucktail hair.

Caught lots of flounder and rat reds with these too, mostly in the shadow of the beach fishing pier.

Wow, you guys use leaders?
Ha, I just use 10 and 12# vanish fishing line tied right to the jig. I inspect the line knot after 2d fish, cut and re-tie after 3d fish caught. Running tandems, I tie a 2d jig onto a 12" line, then tied onto the eye of the 1st jig head.
But I mainly only use 1 jig per rod. Fleas are best bait, but I don't use 'em, I'm too busy casting to dig em up, lol.
