So, here?s the scenario

You lose an item of value at work, say a ?pocket protector?, valued between $20 and $30. You have absolutely no idea where you lost it, but suspect it as work, and after a day or 2 of searching everywhere, and then waiting an additional day or 2, to see if it will turn up, you replace the ?pocket protector? and chock it all up to being careless.

Now fast forward several months, and you see a very familiar ?pocket protector? in a co-workers pocket, and ask him about it. This co-worker willing pulls it out and begins to brag about how he found it at work, in one of the common areas, just laying on the ground, and then expounds on his philosophy of ?finders keepers?

I tell him it?s mine and show him every modification made to the item, how some of the scratches on the inside of the ?pocket protector? got there from a Drimmel tool I had to use to cut the length of the tiny little screws I used to replace the original ones when they fell out of the pocket clip. I then show him how those tiny little screws are different than the original manufactures screws. ( Original are a ?torques head screw? and replacement?s are a hex head screw ). All of this of course, using the replacement "pocket protector" in my pocket as a model.

Anyhow, after a detailed accounting of how the ?pocket protector? is mine, he takes it back, puts it in his pocket, and re-emphasis his ?finders keepers? policy.

Now bear in mind this is at our place of work, there is a lost and found point, a supervisor?s office, and a big ole Dry Erase board where employees commonly leave messages for each other all within a couple of hundred foot radius of where this co-worker found my ?pocket protector?.

I just smiled, said ? keep it, I have already replaced it? and move on about my business.

What would you do ?

Do exactly what you did.

Then find a clever way to insinuate that if his salary is not high enough that he can afford to buy his own things let him know that you would also be willing to simplify a budget scenario that will help him free up the small amount of funds so he could afford his own things. By doing this you are saying quite clearly that he is poor and stupid.

Finders keepers.... But you get a fat lip!

Naw... But I do know enuff things to make his life miserable...

Do yall use computers? Go to the library and anonymously send him nudie pics to company email account... accidently cc some you porn or porn hub links to the bosses email too... Does he have a significant other at home?... You get where this is going right?

Want an invite to gmail for an alias email?

Finders keepers but losers vindicate thru revenge...

You know if you grind some old peeled bait shrimp into the air intake vents at the bottom of a windshield, you basically ruined the car?

3-M 5200 in the key holes of a door lock is a BITCH!!!

I can do this all day....

Who paid for the pocket protector?

If your employer purchased it, then it belongs to the company and not you. Therefore, you can not claim "ownership" because the item was never owned by you, but the company. So long as it is not removed from use by the company then all is good.

If you purchased it, then the other guy is a realdouchebagfor not placing a found item in the lost-and-found area.

I am not sure exactly WHAT I would do....But I can say the end result would not include this co-worker keeping the said pocket protector.

Oh, and another thing. Finders keepers is great when you are 8 years old. When you are an adult it actually does not apply. I am pretty sure that if you can show ownership then he is required by law to give it back to you. If you brought that up at work I am pretty sure they would make him give it back.

Report it to your supervisor and have it documented for the record. Perhaps the item was not "Found" after all, and came into his possession buy other less honorable means. :(

I still say that whoever paid for it own's it.

If you employer paid for it, then your employer owns it and as long as a company employee is using it for company business then all is good.

If you paid for it, then it is another story alltogether.

If he wears glasses, I would punch him in between the eyes. Then give him a band-aid to fix his glasses with. It would make his pocket protector look better...

Well all of my "pocket protectors" are special to me. Doesn't matter if its the $20 walmart special that I carry while working or my $300 custom made automatics. But I would have a sit down with the supervisor about it so as not to interfere with the job taht pays for future "pocket protectors". That said my first instinct would be to slap the smirk off his face.

I purchased the "pocket protector" and it was my personal property. He also complained that the blade wasn't very sharp, and he would have to sharpen it. Kinda hopin he cuts the ever loving shit outta himself, needs an ambulance, and I get to be the one dispatched to his call...now THAT could be a lot of fun !!

By the way, the blade on my "pocket protector" is plenty sharp, may not be Ginsu Knive sharp, but it'll get the job done !

I think the entire situation has only confirmed my initial suspicion that the guy had less than desirable personal character. My dad used to say " lend a guy 20 bucks, and if you never see him again, it'll be money well spent" I guess this was my 20 bucks !!

Since it is that kind of pocket protector, I would simply take it back at any means required!

Or if you ain't into that sort of thing, I would dig deeper into my dirty bag o' vengeance...

Drive an automatic? Crimp trans cooler lines...

Crimp fuel lines...

Slightly loosen oil drain plug...

Automatic center punch to side and back glass on the car...

I would look him straight in the eyes and say "Are you telling me that you plan to keep it , knowing that it's mine ?" If he says yes, he just made an enemy for life. I would also have a sit-down talk with my supervisor and his and let them know that he can't be trusted.

One of my jobs in a prior life was as an HR manager. In most companies if you slug him, you'll pobably get fired (he may still have his job.)

If you catch him away from work, there's probably not much the company can do to you if you slug him, but he may file legal charges for assault and battery.

My suggestion would be to discuss with your boss, and let him confront the rotten ba-tard. My guess is that this isn't his first time as a "keeper". If your boss has any balls he (or she) will fix the problem. Don't lose a decent job in todays environment because of a fight over a pocket protector. This could stay on your work record for a long time.

Just my 2 cents?
