the gut pile is back beside the tree.....
Couldn't agree more! It's just like the guys who won't piss in the deer woods! A deer doesn't know that what he's smelling is human piss any more than I can smell the ground and go "Yep, Mick, that there's a deer piss!" All they can tell iswhat they're interested in: is it a doe in heat or a dude about to whoop my ass? Other than that, all it will do is peak curiosity. And once it's there long enough to where it doesn't surprise them, it won't even do that. Plus deer are starting to get like squirrels: we'll all be shooting them in our backyards if they don't fix the management process everywhere in the U.S., not just a few select areas (aka kill a doe for God's sake!)David Ridenour (10/24/2007)I've never bought into the gut pile will run off the deer theory. But then again, I don't kill Boone and Crocket record deer either. Anyway I've had deer come right up on me whiledressing a deer and I've shot deer the next day right whereI shot and dressed a deer the day before. I'm sure if there was a pack of wolves over the pile it would be different but I don't think coyotes bother adult deer too much. My .02
