Can anyone in the oil industry or other subject matter expertsexplain why there are not skimming operations going on?

You can clearly see the oil floating around, but don't they have skimming vessels that could be going around and sucking up SOME of the oil - especially when it is so close to shore?

I understand that there is A LOT of oil out there and that by skimming the oil off the top is like trying to treat a gunshot wound to an artery with a band-aid; but, it just seems like by now there'd be skimmers EVERYWHERE running around and getting what they can.

Great question. The following is a very informative article that just came out this week addressing some of the issues. Also FYI, Louisiana has 397 miles of General Coastline and 7,721 miles of Tidal Shoreline.
