The Ruger I just bought has a NECG peep installed. I have never shot a gun with one. I hunt the swamp so short distance shots. Should I learn to use the peep?

In your hunting situation ; swamp = low light, then I would say no on the peep. If it were my 73 year old eyes hunting in a swamp I would look into either one of the "red dot" or holographic optical sighting systems.

What cal. rifle is it? I hunt the swamp with a 454 casull lever action and have no problem with mine. I would shoot it first and see if you like it.

The US military has used peep sights (aperture and post) on rifles for over 100 years.

That said, optics are easier for old eyes, and extend shooting hours for young eyes.

I like wide-view electronic red dot sights for shots on deer at less than 100 yards.
