Arrived at around 9:30. Saw 1 guy with an 18" Sheepshead coming off the pier. Talked to a guy that said a Bonita and 2 Ladyfish had been caught besides the Sheepshead, by others. There were about 8 people fishing at that point. About 10:15 I saw a school of maybe 15 Bonita come to about mid pier on the East side. They quickly turned around and headed back East, never to be seen again. Sometime after noon it started raining, stopped about 12:45 and dried out 'til 3ish when it sprinkled then rained hard until maybe 3:45. I decided to end the day about 4:30 when I saw what I thought was going to be a harsher squall headed towards the pier. The wind blew the whole time with the only light wind period being when I saw the Bonita.
I split-shotted small live Menhaden caught 1/20 at the 331 pier, threw 1 & 2oz. slab jigs, Gotchas, Sabiki's tipped with squid, freelined a Mullet strip, Carolina rigged more small live Menhaden, then Mullet roe, then another Mullet strip. I was swapping back and forth between 3 different rods.
If I got a hit at all, it was on a live Menhaden on the Carolina rig under the end of the peir, between rains.
Had decent Jambalya at Margaritaville to warm back up.
Stopped at the Powell Lake launch ramp, on the way home. Small Mullet strips on the 1oz. Carolina rig produced 9 8-14" Croakers in less than an hour, before it started raining hard. Kept 2 smallest alive for Redfish bait and 3 largest for dinner.
Tight lines,
Wade
