Nice to see the Blackfin in. Looks like you had a couple nice trips and no summer pop ups!
BFT was phenomenal in poke bowl and seared!Congrats on a couple of good trips. Might need a tail cut and core sample on those tuna.
Got lucky really… I assumed they were amberjack.Great report and catch! I like the details of how y'all saw/caught the Blackfins.
Nice report. Great job. We used to fish the edge back in the day. Always good trips and fish found.Taken advantage of really calm seas the last two sundays and had some great trips offshore. Made it to the edge in a 22 foot bay boat. Weather man was right two times in a row!
5/14: Was headed SE to some bottom spots when i ran over a spot in about 95 feet of water. Marked up great and we instantly had big ARS chummed up to the surface. After playing with them, we were about to leave and had about a 40lb wahoo roll up no more than five feet away from the boat. He swam right past two free lines out the back. Unlucky.. Caught our two man limit of trigger and then headed to the edge. I have never really fished out there, so we were more exploring bottom and hoping to see some action on top. we came across some decent bottom marks and caught a few mingos, but kept noticing big streaks suspended in water column. We dropped live bait and jigs to them, but nothing. Decided to chum a bit and throw some free lines out the back. We hooked up pretty instantly to two stud 20 lb blackfin tunas. got them both in the boat and hooked up twice more but one pulled the hook and another got sharked. All in all, a great day.
5/21: Had a similar plan in mind, but the weather at sunrise was a little suspect. We trout fished for a couple hours before deciding to give the gulf a go. Glad we did. It was flat calm all day long and not hot a bit. Caught a bunch of really nice trigger fish and of course our fair share of out of season ARS. Added a lucky 18' scamp and a stud mangrove weighing just over 7lbs. We did not make it out to the edge due to our late start, but still had a heck of a day.
