I take a small Penn Slammer (10lb) for spanish, a med Slammer (15lb) for for kings/spanish etc, and a large Penn Battle spoiled with 40lb braid for extra "security" lol. If I'm targeting spanish or pompano, I'll take an extra small rod. As far as tackle...spoons, dusters, gotchas, trolling plugs, live bait hooks, steel leader (15-60lb), sabiki rigs, pompano jigs... Take plenty of water, food, and BEER. If you're gonna get ate by a shark, you might as well be drunk lol. And DON'T forget the sunblock.

My wife's name is Pro Angler, and she let's me take the kitchen sink if I wanna. Most fish go in a 48qt cooler. I normally stay within a mile or so from my truck, so if I catch a big king, or whatever, I take it back to a bigger cooler (or just call it a day). I'd like to get a big fish bag to put in the hull, but they ain't cheap. Oh, and I forgot, a hand gaff might come in handy. I made a spear gaff, but haven't used it yet.

Ok, if this is a dumb question, please excuse me for it but how do you go about getting a kayak out into blue water/offshore water? It seems as if there are several people who fish this way and it would be too much of a hassle to fish in a kayak so far from shore. Can you be ticketed for being in such a small craft in big open water offshore or even in a busy pass, i'm sure it would be difficult for you to fish with large boats and their wake and quite dangerous for both vessels.

The pass can get dangerous. I've been in a couple sticky situations out there. Not with traffic, but with the tides. There are times I wouldn't dare fight the traffic though. As far as the gulf, there's a lot of room out there. I am not concerned with being hit by a boat any more than I am concerned about getting into a car wreck on the way to the water. Wake is not an issue either, at least not for most "fishing" yaks. They're pretty stable. The surf is really the worst part, but it can be fun and easy if you handle it properly. One minor oversight/hesitation on the way in can really get you into trouble in the breakers.
