No more dealing with Cabela's and ascend nuance's, I finally upgraded to something I can relax a little in.

After hours of research, I decided to skip pedal drive altogether and jump straight to powered.

Being able to stand in a kayak and fish, there's no way I wanted to switch back to sitting only, and I couldn't find a great pedal drive with an open deck, that I could install a motor on, and just run a plug in the pedal drive spot if/when i wasn't using it. (Paddleboard hybrids were another option, but I still wanted gunnels)

I've seen nucanoes as an option for years, I love the open concept design and this year's model is nicely updated, the company is very active on their social media, they offer 3 years warranty on the hull and free lifetime replacement parts. Definitely took input from their users and fixed a lot of the little issues from previous models. And made in the USA!

Went with a motorguide Xi3 with gps, 55# thrust and a 36" shaft marketed for kayaks specifically. It's no MinnKota, but for the price, and still has pinpoint (spot lock) and gps tracking, its hard to beat.

Boat is 12'6" and 41" wide, I can walk around in it without stabilizers. (6'3 and 290lbs) seat swivels 360, and there's just over 22' of aluminum track in it.

Lots of rigging to do, still need get a lithium battery, and I'll need to register it.

So far I'm very happy with it, and glad I didn't go with a jon boat. Paddles way better than the ascend 128x I had previously.

Looks good, how do you control the trolling motor?

They come with a wireless controller, I've noticed it's not reacting to start/stop as well as it once did

Added an aftermarket metal backer plate as the factory lanyard ring snaps off over time. I wear it around my neck on an old duck call lanyard, some guys strap it to their thighs

Motor guide makes a wireless foot control I'd like to try

Temps here dropped into the teens here for a few nights so I'm spending the weekend in the garage, about 12 hours into peeling this tape.

Works great as a keel gaurd, almost sticks a little too well. Heat gun, acetone, goo gone, nothing seems to touch it.

I have the remote and (corded version) foot controller. Not really for you as I know you I'm sure already know. But the foot controller IS AWESOME you can stand on it like old school stuff or use the touch buttons to do everything and I love being able to use it that way! Hands free no remote to have to screw with! It's so much better to use than the remote.

You have an xi5/3 ?

I can't seem to find the corded version, the wireless version has some horrendous reviews but I may still give it a go.

I'm undecided about the deck on the kayak too, should I add something flat and reinforced

Got about a month still here before things pick up

No sorry I got overly excited about how well I like the foot controller and wanted folks to know. I have the Terrova. My bad wasn't paying enough attention.

Aluminum deck cap up there to mount to would be all the strength you need if you wanted to go that route . Have no idea about your area up there but here we have a few metal supplier's that if you take them the dimensions they can cut and bend a custom cap pretty cheap. And it's really as easy as folding cardboard over what you want the cap to look like.

I didn't like the kydex in the middle, so I found a local plastic supply and bought a1'x8' peice of ABS for 38$

Cut it down today and started heat forming it

Skid gaurd is on, unused marine goop for the install, glues well but does not apply as a caulk bead. Definitely use lexel next time

New tackle crate in the works

Green might have matched the hull better but I tend to lean towards brighter colors, this will still reflect more sunlight and stay cooler

I may end up painting the storage seat to match now

The 6 rod holders really pushed me to switching, I can now get rid of the ram tubes on the sides, they are super nice but in the way for strapping the kayak in the bed and it's an added task at the ramp when launching

Is is bigger than the tstak box, but all it did was fill the gap at the sidekick mounting bar, I was able to move the aluminum angle forward and use the same mounting track bolts that the sidekick does

With a new crate comes a new color, trying out this MTN brand for the first time, some kind of synthetic lacquer I believe, smells sweet

Definitely the best match, krylon wasn't even close

When you’re done you’re going to be able to send that rig out by itself and it’ll come back with fish.

First time out yesterday, only issue a ran into was rod tips getting tangled but no issues if I'm a little more careful storing baits

They are way closer to me than before, not sure if it makes a difference yet

Just an FYI, holstersmith dotcom sells 2x4 sheets of kydex for very reasonable amounts and fast shipping.

Been meaning to make a post about that, apex fishing made both of them. They are 3d printed

2 days after I purchased my first one, they released another that was supposed to fix all the issues I was having

So I reached out and explained how loose it was, kept popping off the top and bottom and falling back onto the mount. They offered to send me a new one as a replacement

After 8 months of excuses, I finally received the new one. It's definitely tighter, I'll see how holds up

They were both black, I color matched them
