Had the pleasure of entertaining a new group from Arkansas on Friday. They seemed like real nice people and I hoped the fishing would be good so I could show them a good time. Well, it was! After Paul the bait man hooked us up with primo baits, I made a pretty long run to some proven scamp grounds. They bit awesome and we had a heck of a grade of em with the biggest weighing 17.6. We picked up a few jacks along the way and saved room for a few deep drop groupers. Rounded the box off with 5 nice yellowedges and headed to the barn. I wish all trips were that easy! I had another trip yesterday and it was like someone turned off a light switch. We still did ok but had to work extremely hard for far fewer fish. I guess that's why it's called fishing not catching. Here some pics from Friday

Great trip. You have the deep dropping down for sure.
Thanks man, not sure any of us have it down though. Been out there plenty of times without much at all, we were just fortunate on this trip. It is rewarding though when my R & D finally pays off. We have spent many of long hours out there looking around at empty bottom

I forgot to add the best part of the trip. This family brought one of the sons who had down syndrome and had never been out on a boat and they had to convince him to come on the trip because he was worried he'd get sick and be in the way. The total opposite occurred and it was slick calm and he had the time of his life. It was absolutely awesome for me to witness him catching his first fish ever and having the time of his life. One of the new spots I fished was a run over and was very hot. I told them this spot needed a name and he came up with one and was so proud to have named "the captain's new best fishing hole". He named it Donatello for whatever that means but I can't tell you how rewarding it was to see the smile on his face. It was a reassurance that this is why we do what we do. That's what it's all about!
