Went to new Dick's sporting goods store today and was not impressed. No where near as good as Academy. What's everyone else's thought

I wasn't impressed either. Went in there Friday for the first time looking for a specific item. They did not it on the shelf and could not find anyone to ask about it. Picked up some terminal tackle and headed to the cashier station, where I had to wait for the next available cashier, of which there were two when I arrived. They appeared to be working in slow motion without regard to the line growing, waiting for them. Finally a third cashier arrives and I think the line will start moving, not. He had apparently been on break and was just returning, but did not have time to get a drink of water as he turned his back to those of us in line and took three or four swigs of water while chatting with his fellow cashier. Finally he signed on and acknowledged the growing line watching his every move and asked if help the next person in line, which was me.
Dick's sucks.

Dicks

Sounds like the new store over there is about the same as others I have visited. Just to have something to do I have visited a few in other cities.
I don't pay any attention to the "other" sporting goods and clothes and head straight to the fishing section. What I have seen the selection it is limited and seems to be higher priced than Academy. Academy has much more to choose from and it's displayed better. Academy prices beat Bass Pro as well.

Funny, I thought the "new" Academy is not as well stocked on what I want/need as the old one. I agree the new Dicks store has slightly higher prices but their selection of what I want/need is better. Guess it depend on what you are looking for. I buy mostly salt water stuff, seems like 80% of Academy's is directed toward freshwater or inland salt.

I didn't think it was all that bad . I priced a reel at both and they were the exact same price. I do prefer academy though, but not That big of a difference to me. Better than sports authority!

IMO It wasnt all that good but they did have some different worm's and hard baits I havent seen in Academy did buy a UL reel and the prices seem high to me. A lot of GY stuff more than I have seen any where else.Doubt I buy much there unless it isnt anywhere else.

When Dicks pulled the AR's after the Sandy Hook shooting, I took that to mean they blame sportsmen for the shooting, and that denying they're customers access to those rifles then they were doing their part to stop it from happening again. This is the most offensive thing I can think of for a retailer of sporting equipment can do, and if I live to be a hundred that will be one hundred years I will have spent not shopping at Dicks, I don't care if they're giving stuff away that I can't get anywhere else.

Went today to use my $10 off coupon and my 200 point bonus for the card and $21 bucks later. I still prefer academy but they had some cool stuff @ dicks, a very large selection of DOA products, and sales where pretty good on certain items, I like the neoprene reel covers for 6 bucks.

I for one don't give a shit about what a business does with stuff they sell or don't sell or feel they need to take items off the shelf to ease some tensions, same as Chik-fillet. You own a business you do what you and other boardmembers decide and that's it, they have the say on what is sold and not sold in there stores. BTW store was pretty packed and I will be back. I like the point system and the bonuses will ease some of the cost difference. Academy needs a card.

No one ever ssid they hire smart folks lol. They might have it temporarily down cause this was like 4 days after the Grand Opening and they had already lost so many parts to the machine he had to use the reel to crank the line on instead of putting the spool on the machine. The spiking station is a small room right behind the gun Counter

Can't understand all this dicks hate .. Great saltwater selection , aqua dream spoons. , more doa than I have ever seen stuff I didn't even knew they made , Trokar hooks , Diawa ballistic reels , fin nor reels , hogey worms , all this stuff you can't find at one store but have to run to different places. .. I thought the saltwater selection was awesome and I like the wright magill rods might pick one up for my daughter. .the sporting goods was also great quality Rawlings gloves great football and soccer selection all stuff my children need. I will be back for sure. I like academy as well but I think dicks has them beat for now and the new academy store was a joke no different than the old one not one bit. And if I was buying and A. R. It wouldn't be from either but rather my LGS .. Just my 2 cents

For what it is worth, Academy bonds are rated CCC+ (S&P). They pay about 8%. Which means the company (actually owned by KKR), is in rocky shape. On the other hand, Dick's is in good financial condition. Sports Authority is gone.

you can get some pretty good deals when you use their coupons to get points. the coupon may say 200 bonus points for your next fishing purchase. go buy a 99cent lure. then a month later there may be a coupon for 200 bonus points for your next golf purchase. go buy a 99cent pack of tees. with those points, you've just earned a 10 dollar certificate for spending 1.98.

this may sound crazy but that is the only reason i ever went to dick's. all of my other outdoor purchases were local stores or Academy.
