Anyone have any recommendations for a slow pitch rod and reel combo? Preferably under $500.

I use the Goofish black spiral wrapped with a Penn Fathom 25NLD. I really like the rod, minimum line wrapping. The reel is too big but good enough for me. I haven't invested in a dedicated reel yet since I don't normally go deeper than 100".

I also primarily use the black goofish but with a shimano torium 16 loaded with 30lb braid. Have fished it over 700ft and got yellow edge grouper and it did fine but primarily fish it in 150-400ft. No complaints from either rod or reel from me.

I have a Goofish also with a torium 16. Have only end doing it since last year but good beginner setup that won’t break the bank.

I’m looking at the Goofish rod. do you guys have straight guides, left spiral guides or right spiral guides? I’m probably putting the Shimano Torium on it. I’m right handed.

Spiral and you want them rotating to the left. Opposite of your hand.

I like Spiral. I have an inline Daiwa jigging rod and it gets tip wrapped more often with the same size line and jig.

Ok, I have convinced my wife to buy me a Torium 16PGA and Goofish left spiral SPJ rod For my birthday. Any recommendations for 3-4 must have jigs? I’ll be primarily bottom fishing 150 feet or less of water, but occasionally make a run deeper.

I am a big fan of JohnyJigs, if you call them and tell them what you are targeting, where you’re fishing and how deep they will make good recommendations.
