I am helping my dad with a project boat that has twin Mercury outdrives mated to 4 cylinder, 140 hp engines. We have several extra outdrive units we will use to put together 2 good working units for the boat. I need to know how to determine the gear ratio of the outdrive, and how to change it if necessary. The extra drives come from various setups with 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines.

Being a 4 cylinder itis probably 2.0 : 1, but you can also take it apart and count the teeth on the forward gear and the pinion gear,,,
