Im looking for a marine radio online but I noticed some of the radio it says you have to have an FCC license. Does anyone know if you have to have it? Also what is a good inexpensive radio people are using?

you want a handheld VHF radio. THe handhelds usually go up to 5 watts, which means you dont have to have a license. The range is about 5 miles. The brand Icomm is the gold standard, many others are also quality. They can get expensive with all the bells/whistles, but I only have mine for emergencies so I didn't need that. The features I wanted are waterproofness and floating. Got that in an Icom for about $115.
