Looking to do some hog hunting

2673 Views 17 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  HeavyD
I live in Navarre and im looking to do some hog hunting with my 30-30. I found 2 places one in century and one in perry but the charge you to hog hunt there? I also heard of a hunting behind the ranger camp and of a Escambia WMA but I know nothing of either of those places. Im just trying to find some people with land that have a hog problem that I could help out with or just some general places where hog hunting is good? Thanks in advance

The 3 WMA's that are close to you and have a decent population of hogs are Yellow River, Escambia and Eglin. The general gun season ended today in Escambia and Yellow River. Eglin has been closed for a few weeks now. You can hunt hogs on Yellow River and Escambia during small game season, but not with a 30-30. Private land is your only option. You and everyone else on this forum wants to help landowners with their hog problem so good luck with that.
Yellow river is closest to you but I think escambia has the most hogs, based on how much hog sign I see. Need a boat for escambia though.
Yeah im not trying to find someone to help tell me where the hogs are or anything im just trying to figure out like how I can get to those spots mentioned above because one I have no idea where to go to get to them so I just need to know how to get to them so I can go threw and find good areas to hunt and know that im not on someone elses land or on state land where im gonna pull the trigger and get arrested. ESC wma I guess is out I have no boat or anything to get up that river, I just wanna know where I need to go to park my truck and start searching the woods. Im gonna either take the 30-30 or the shotgun so when are those areas also aloud to be hog hunted I thought it was year round for hogs? And just so yall know im not new to hunting just new to hunting this area here ive always done all my hog hunting in GA and deer hunting in TX.

You need to go to the FWC website and look at the brochure and map for the WMA of your choice. They list all dates for different seasons. No rifles in YR or Escambia, closed yesterday, shotgun or rimfire only. You can only hunt on a WMA during one of its posted seasons. Private land (only) is open for hogs year round.

Also, you need a hunting license with WMA permit.
Okay I gotcha. I was used to GA where we used to hunt hogs we could hunt them anytime day or night. But I will look into the FWC website I appreciate it

I think it's that way in Florida on public land...WMA's a little more strict. I really want to kill one with my bow and I have found them at my place in Bama...just not sure what to do with a dead hog yet. Heres my buddies food plot Saturday afternoon

Man if you want I can come up there and kill them with you. And then I'll show you exactly how to take care of a dead hog and the good meat to get from it

Thanks - but in the case of this area - I am basically a guest myself
I gotcha so they won't allow anyone to come hunt it with you?

I asked this same question last week. The answer I got and from what I read you do not need a hunting license to hunt hogs on a wma. You only need a wma permit.
^^^10-4, I recall that too now
Ok yeah that's what I thought!
A game warden might not ticket you if you were hunting hogs without a license during the small game season, but during general gun it will be real hard to convince him you were only hunting hogs and not deer too. You better buy a license and a deer permit in case you do shoot a deer.

Why would you shoot a deer if your not hunting deer?

Although I agree you would avoid any hassle by having the license and permit, the wma brochure specifically says no license needed to hunt hogs.
Is 20$ really worth the hassle?
