I had a mako 20 that had rod racks under both gunnels- rods, boathook, gaff all went in there. what I didn't like was there was a ~3 inch lip at the bottom that would trap leaves, water, etc. It had drain holes aft, but a better design would be to have the bottom open right onto the deck so it would not hold water and would drain immediately, easy to clean.
