Heading to Ft. Pickens tonight and going to hit the beach in the Yak tomorrow morning. Are the Kings and Spanish biting well BTB?

Thanks in advance!

I havent tried the gulf this season so I dont really know. Right about now is when it goes from hit or miss to pretty consistent, especially for spanish. Two weeks from now the kings should be thick. But, they are catching both at the piers now, thats a good source to check, the piers usually have facebook pages that show recent catches. All in all, I think it will be worth fishing the gulf this weekend starting now. The waves and win projected on Swellinfo make it look like Sat and Sunday are out though.

Yeah I saw where both were getting caught on the piers and figured that was a good sign. Saturday and Sunday don't look good, but Thursday and Friday are looking like they will be pretty nice for yak fishing.

I may end up trolling out to Three Barges and then drifting some baits on bottom before trolling back. If anyone wants to join you're welcome to.

I've been out three times since March 1st, the only thing I've caught were some redfish I was sight casting too. Haven't had so much as a bit trolling past the sandbars. And last week when I was out, I didn't even see anything on my fish finder. No baitballs, nothing hanging around the bottom, nothing.

Thursday of last week the Spanish were really thick just past the 1st sandbar. They were busting bait on the surface. I got out and caught 5 in just a few minutes before one bit through my leader and stole my only gotcha plug. I came back prepared on Friday with multiple lures rigged, but the water was so rough that I turned back shortly after launching.

Yeah, I got out yesterday afternoon and it was a huge change from the past month. Bait everywhere, birds, dolphins, turtles, etc were all out. And just past the first sandbar out to the 2nd there were just masses of Spanish migrating west. Millions of fish. When I went out further I got a couple bites on my trolling rig from something with sharp teeth that cut a couple pieces off the lure skirt and saw flying fish a couple times. Should be good fishing in the coming weeks if the weather doesn't kick it up too much.
