If a fish has a regulation by size it generally says they have to be be "landed whole". Id not do it.

 

I can see it coming, A new section on PFF if it was legal to keep them.

Hey Joe there are some monster Snapper and grouper at the barges and the Sharks have learned to bight them 1/3 rd the way up from the tail. Lets go load up on them. Bring that mouth shaped knife you made up just in case.

 

From my understanding, you can keep a shark bit fish, but it still has to measure legal even with whatever section it is missing.

Yep its still got to be Legal .... makes no sense but its Law

 

It kinda does due to people taking a knife and making a "shark bite" to a barely illegal fish.

 

yepper, I asked that one day, it has to measure to be a legal fish.... other than that feed them the rest of it.....

 

Cool. Wish the laws were different but Split is right....many more shark bites would occur via Bubba Blade.

 

The standards are:

Season must be open;
Portion landed must be at least minimum legal requirement;
Will count as part of total catch.

 

So a 27" red that's probably actually 45"s would be legal?...ive had a few of those nightfishing the pass...goes from good fish on- to what the Hell have I got- to what happened..lol

 

And then I can see someone caught with two 20" halves, one head and one tail, ,,and, a pair of shark jaws. :thumbdown:

 

be careful with keeping a bitten fish, last year i asked 2 fwc officers, and one NOAA officer. I pretty much got three answers, You can keep it as long as its legal length. You cannot keep it if reg states, fish must be landed in whole condition. and the NOAA guy said why keep it throw it back and catch another.

So what i came to conclusion is, would they ticket you, prolly not, could they, yes.

my solution, put a grill on the boat.

This wasn't in reference to anything that's been an issue for me. I was curious after reading an AJ report from last Saturday. Those guys had some shark issues, so I wondered what the rules stated.
