I have a little place on the river in Central Al and we want to put another dwelling on an empty lot.

Really intrigued with the "Katrina Cottage" concept.

http://www.katrinacottagehousing.org/is a good example site

or LOWES.com has info as well.

The question: Anyone in the construction trade who has experience building a Katrina Cottage and willing to tackle one in Central Alabama??

Also any new dwelling has to be on 8+ foot pilings to meet flood zone specs.

Hugh,

Next time you come up this way, go through Monroeville and look at the cottages they have there. You can see them on the east side of HWY 21 coming north just before you actually get into Monroeville. I think they are cedar sided and designed in the same fashion. They are also designed to be moved like a mobile home. Marie and I are thinking about getting one to put on our property down there.

Also, on Hwy 98 east of GBreeze, across from the RV Center (what used to be Emerald Coast), there are some. It is a dirt road and says private but no gate. They are trying to make a "village" down there. Some of them have OPEN signs for touring but when i went, they were locked. I love the style and compactness. Great fishing cottage:clap
