Pigsdaddy (1/23/2010)I hate to report that there are officially no deer left in south Alabama.
This warm weather sure seems to have put a damper on the deer moving. All my food plots have little to no activity, whereas they were covered up 10 days ago.

I am trying to decide right now if I want to go hunting today (saturday) or wait till sunday when it should be a little cooler.

I went on tuesday and the skeeters almost toted me off.

They're moving, moving a lot as far as I can tell. They just changed where they move to.

I've noticed when it's warmer, transition areas or travel paths are the best places to hunt. Food, maybe but seems like they might feed at night a bit more when it's warm. But they will move in the morning and at sunset.

This is from a guy who does nothing but spook deer though so take that into consideration.

We had about 1200 acres covered up this morning and saw one small buck. We jumped a deer moving a stand about 11. We are headed out now to sit until dark. I took off this week, but if it don't pick up I'm going back to work and saving my days for fishing.

I feel your pain boss! My buddy and I ain't seen squat the last 2 day-I saw two dogs and a deer smaller than my bullets yesterday morning, and we have not seen crap beyond that! We are in Wallace NW of Brewton. We are hoping they will be moving this evening ahead of the front - gonna be 90% chance of rain tomorrow

Congrats to your pop and I'll look for the pics tonight. I just had to come home, clean the crap out of my pants, and borrow my wifes seat so I could head back out. I was pearched about 25 foot on the edge of a clearcut just relaxing when all of a sudden my seat straps broke causing me to drop like I was on a dunking booth. I had on my harness, but if you have never tested one of these things out, don't. My back is really tight, and I am not sure that I own a right nut anymore.

Yikes, seat straps broke, that's not good. Were they old? What kind of harness did you have? I know Hunter Safety Vests need to be sent in and some parts replaced after they have been used in a fall. Not sure if others are like that. Glad to hear you were wearing a harness, could have been a lot worse.

I was in a cougar claw. It was my fault. I knew the buckles had about had it and I had told my wife on Thursday night that they needed to be replaced. I was wearing a seat of the pants harness. I keep it pretty tight so I probably only fell a couple of feet. I bounced off the lower platform and it swang around the tree on me. I was able to pull myself back up onto it and then climb down. Scared me more than anything. My lower back was really sore yesterday, but I killed a 9 pt out of the same stand this morning, so its all good. I'm going to call Cougar Claw this morning and get me some new buckles. They have great customer service, so it would not surprise me if he sends me a whole new seat for free.
